WED, MARCH 23, UPDATE ON UPDATES: Well, that didn’t go according to plan. Sorry about the lack of updates and the radio silence. I had an eye infection that made me sensitive to all light. Fun. Anyway, I’ll have something new up Friday.
Well, it’s about midnight and need to wake back up less than 6 hours from now. I had a really rough weekend and I’m gonna be on the road all day tomorrow. I mean today. Monday. You know what I mean. Dammit. My brain is dying. Anyway, yeah, so the page isn’t gonna happen; I’m nowhere near done with it. But I WILL post it sometime on Wednesday! Friday’s will be up as scheduled. Again, sorry to leave you hanging guys. Meanwhile, here’s some random old artwork and happy π day!
Wellllll, um, hmmmm… Now, you’ve all gotten a little taste of what makes me tick. I’ve tried not to divulge too much personal stuff with you all, because I fear it will bore you, annoy you or drive you away. (If I ever wrote a memoir, it’d be titled, “How Lose Friends and Alienate People”). Anyway, I’m super indecisive (you should see how it takes me to just decide what to eat at a restaurant) and occasionally I’m annoyingly impulsive like I was with making that damned poll. REGRETS.
I feel bad that I’ve been jerking all of you around… And I’m touched that many of you didn’t mind sacrificing color for more updates. Also, I understand that some of you want things to stay the same. So, I’ve been doing a ton of thinking since I made that blasted poll, and I came to what I think (and I hope you agree) is a reasonable solution. I’ve decided to compromise. Starting next Monday, the 29th (LEAP DAY!) I will begin updating twice a week (Mon & Fri), but I’m gonna take the color down a few notches. It was just too time-consuming, and I was kind of using as a crutch. It was initially just an experiment, but it kind of got out of hand. Anyway, with this way, I think everyone wins! Thanks for bearing with me, everyone! I appreciate your patience!
I’ve been planning on making a Patreon thingy for The Night Belongs to Us basically, but one of the things that was holding me back was my indecisiveness. I wanted to start one partly in hopes to hire a colorist. I did the math, and it would be pretty expensive to get a good one and pay them fairly. So, I sat around on it. Finally, I thought, what if I just didn’t do color anymore? Wait, hear me out.
When I started The Night Belongs to Us, I thought no one would want to read it if it wasn’t in color. It’s probably because I worked as a theme park Caricature artist for so long. Customers showed so much disdain for black and white. But, I just recently realized a lot of my favorite comics aren’t even in color (Strangers in Paradise, Rachel Rising Bone (originally), Black Hole, Lady Snowblood, Uzumaki, Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron.) I guess I was just really insecure about my own abilities.
Also, in regards to the Patreon, I was planning on adding goals that would allow me to have more updates per week, and a big factor on moving forward with it is the coloring…
So, I thought I’d ask you, the reader, what do you think? Do you care if TNBTU is color or not? Let me know! If the majority of y’all want Black & White, I will start updating 2 pages a week immediately. Otherwise, things will stay as is for now. The Patreon goal amounts for more updates per week will reflect on what’s decided.
EDIT- I moved it up. Now it ends Midnight on Monday.
The power in your hands. If you feel strongly (or mildly or whatever) about it either way, feel free to speak your mind in the comments below.
